Best Organizing Products

There are thousands of organizing products on the market. Nowadays, if you want a bin, you have hundreds of options to select from. Am I right? Unfortunately, this makes the decision process extremely difficult. In fact, as a Certified Professional Organizer who has worked with hundreds of people, the one common denominator amongst 97% of my clients, is that shopping for organizing products is tough. There are simply too many options available. I cannot tell you how many times I have worked with clients and we find abandoned organizing products all over the house, all of which means, they bought a bin, it didn’t fit or solve their issue and now it’s in storage in their basement or garage. Sound familiar?

Ok, let’s get down to business. I’ve tested hundreds of the organizing products on the market (can you tell I am obsessed with organizing?) which means I know which products work and which ones, unfortunately, do not work. Yes, there are organizing products that ‘look nice’ but are not functional. And if you know me personally, you know I am extremely picky about my organizing products and won’t settle for anything wobbly, flimsy or low-quality. I only use the best organizing products and frankly, you should too. It will make your life a lot easier.

Below is a list of my all-time favorite organizing products that I’ve used in organizing projects in the last four years of coaching others on how to organize their physical spaces. Most of which (if not all) I use inside my own home which you probably saw on my episode of Clean Freaks on HGTV.

Before you read the list, I want to be completely transparent with you. Some of the below links are affiliate links and I will earn a small commission if you purchase through those links. When I say small commission, I mean a small cup of coffee from Starbucks or an impulse purchase at the grocery store like a candy bar or pack of gum. Unless you buy 10,000 lazy susans using the links below, I won’t be buying a pair of Manolo Blahnik’s anytime soon!

All of the below products I have personally used and am recommending them because they are simply amazing, not because of the commissions that I may earn from you using these products. Please do not purchase any of the below products unless you feel it’s something you really need to help get you organized, otherwise, it’s just clutter in your home. And you know, I do NOT encourage clutter!

If you don’t want to click the links below because you don’t want me to earn a pumpkin spice latte from Starbucks, no worries, feel free to search for the products on Google and we can still be friends. I just want to be honest with you before giving you my list of best organizing products.

Here’s to you joining my inner circle of America’s most organized people!

Productivity Apps

  • Rescue Time – RescueTime is a desktop program that helps you understand how and where you spend your time while working or browsing the Internet. Find out what websites and programs take up most of your time. Assign tags to different programs and sites and set goals to trigger notifications that are completely automated. Run glossy reports that show you exactly how you’ve been spending your time.

Kids Apps & Organizers

  • Kids’ Chore Chart App – This app brings the traditional chore chart onto your cell phone or tablet, with a customizable, interactive interface. The app is available for Apple or Android (see links below) and helps parents keep track of their child’s good behavior, and reward them appropriately to keep them motivated. Just type their name, select a few tasks from the list (or enter them), and reward their accomplishments which are displayed in the weekly chart. The app also allows you to set up abstract goals like “Patience” and “Sharing with Others” in order to reinforce the values you want your child to learn. When stars have been earned, your child can pick from the default list of suggested rewards, or you can customize the rewards (e.g., allowance, or an hour of watching TV).
  • The Berenstain Bears – Get Organized (DVD) – Based on the world-renowned children’s book series from Stan and Jan Berenstain, The Berenstain Bears have enthralled readers for four decades. Between things they like to do and things they need to do; Brother, Sister, and Papa are finding it hard to keep up. Mama advises that they must learn to prioritize their chores and hobbies by being more organized. The Berenstain Bears – Get Organized DVD features six charming adventures, all of which emphasize that working together, listening to each other and pitching in are the perfect solutions that families can use to find a balance in their daily lives.
  • The Berenstain Bears And The Messy Room (Paperback) – Just as the DVD above, this book will allow your children to glean lessons on the good habits of organizing and team work. In this story, the room shared by Brother and Sister bear is a mess because instead of working together, the cubs argue over who should tidy it up.

Kitchen/Pantry Organizing Products

  • 18″ Lazy Susan Turntable - This is the best 18″ lazy susan which works well in lower or corner kitchen cabinets. Its spins extremely easy and never gets stuck unlike other lazy susans. This lazy susan also works well if you have 16″ deep elfa pantry shelves (even though the lazy susan is 18″ and the shelf is 16″, it works perfectly on lower shelves – trust me!)
  • 10″ Lazy Susan Turntable - This is the best 10″ lazy susan which works well in upper kitchen cabinets that are typically 11″ in depth. I use this lazy susan in my pantry for storing spices – works wonderfully (and is fun to spin!).
  • 16″ Lazy Susan Turntable – This is the best 16″ lazy susan ideal for using in the pantry. In my experiences, most reach-in pantries are 3ft wide (36″) so using two of these side-by-side works beautifully.
  • Tiered Shelf for Canned Goods - There are so many tiered shelves on the market. This is the only one I use because it fits large sized soup cans (you know what I mean, those large cans whole tomatoes come in) in addition to small cans. This is also the sturdiest one, which means it won’t wobble.
  • elfa Door Rack for Pantry – If you have a swing door in your pantry, hang a door rack for extra storage. I love this one because the baskets are adjustable and extremely sturdy unlike others I’ve tried. Adding a door rack to the pantry is great for storing extra canned goods, condiments, etc.
  • Kitchen Drawer Dividers – If I had to pick my favorite kitchen product, I’d pick these. I’m obsessed with these dividers. Traditionally you are supposed to use them vertically but I like to ‘think outside the box’ and use them horizontally, stacked or even cris-crossed. Another amazing product.
  • Vertical Pan Dividers – I use these dividers to store my flat baking sheets and cutting boards vertically which means I never have to deal with annoying stacks of pans. Little things like this, make my life easier (and will probably make yours too!).
  • Hooks for Cabinets - I hang pot holders on the inside of my kitchen cabinets using these hooks. Because the tape is so sticky and heavy-duty, the hook won’t fall off.
  • Snack Bins - I’m a big fan of these bins because they are extremely sturdy and have attachable wheels that do not fall off (unlike other bins). I’ve used them for snack bins in the pantry or for storing bulk stuff in the garage or laundry room. You’ll have to find the exact size you need but you won’t be disappointed.
  • Air-Tight Containers for Dry Goods – These are my favorite air-tight containers perfect for storing dry goods such as flour and sugar. Everything about them is phenomenal; the lid, the container, the durability, the ability to stack, etc. They come is a wide variety of sizes.
  • Double Shelf for Kitchen Cabinets – The double shelf I use inside my kitchen cabinets has been discontinued (not sure why since it was the best one), however, this double shelf seems to have replaced the older version. I can’t speak to the quality but I’m sure it works just as well.

Closet Organizing Products

  • Over-the-Door Shoe Pockets (clear) – I’m obsessed with these door pockets. I have them hanging on four doors in my own home. I don’t use them for shoes though, I use them for cords, closet accessories, cosmetics and utility items. There are tons of door pockets on the market and I’ve tried pretty much all of them, these are the best ones because they hang straight, the pockets are sturdy and clear so you can see what is in inside.
  • Over-the-Door Shoe Pockets (canvas) - I use these door pockets for my shoes in my own closet. I prefer a fabric shoe pocket over clear PVC because you don’t always want to ‘see’ your dirty shoes. The shoe will always ‘peak out’ at the top so you will always know what’s inside the pocket even though it’s not clear.
  • Shelf Dividers – I use these shelf dividers to separate everything including towels, sheets, file folders, notebooks, envelopes, etc. They are excellent and can even be flipped upside-down for taller stacks. In fact, I encourage everyone in my inner circle to keep extra on hand.
  • Bedroom Dresser Drawer Dividers – These are the same drawer dividers from the kitchen section, except shorter and taller. Again, a must have in any drawer.
  • Hanging Jewelry Bag Organizer - This jewelry bag is great for storing small jewelry such as rings, earrings or even pendants. It can also be used in the bathroom for storing pony tail holders and bobby pins.

Bathroom Organizing Products

  • Shower Curtain Liner with Storage – This product is so cool, it’s a shower curtain with storage. However, I use it as the curtain liner and store extra bars of soap, my hair brush and comb. It also works well for storing kids’ bath toys.
  • elfa Under-the-Sink Gliders – Under the sink storage can be tricky. I’ve installed these gliders (drawers) under my sink and they work perfectly for my needs. They do make taller drawers to maximize your space; you’ll have to measure your space accordingly and see what fits.
  • Wall-Mounted Hanger Valet – I have two of these valets near my laundry area to hang wet laundry. These valets allow the clothes to dry in the right shape while on hangers to minimize wrinkles. They also save space by folding upright along the wall when not in use.

Home Office Organizing Products

  • Stackable Home Office Paper Sorter – I’ve used this paper sorter project after project without fail. The trays slide out nicely, there is a place for a label and they are even stackable. I love this sorter.
  • Freedom Filer Filing Kit – This is the exact filing system I use inside my own home. In fact, this is the filing system I set-up for each and every one of my clients. It’s works wonderfully if you follow it correctly.
  • elfa File Cart (legal or letter) – This is the filing cart I use in my home office. It’s the BEST filing cart. Since I’m a visual person, I like to keep everything ‘out’ so I know what I have. If you’re a visual person, I highly recommend this product. The wheels also slide smoothly.
  • Colorful Hanging File Folders – I’ve tried every hanging file folder on the market, these are the best ones. They are extremely sturdy and won’t tear or rip if the weight is too heavy. They come in seven different colors and have matching interior file folders.
  • Self-Adhesive Wheels – I did a whole video on these wheels. They are AMAZING! They are self-adhesive and you can stick them to the bottom of anything to add instant wheels. Let me tell you, they won’t fall off. Even if you try to pull them off, they don’t come off. Best product ever. They hold up to 200 lbs!
  • Mesh Office Supply Drawer Organizers - There are a plethora of drawer bins on the market. My favorite ones are the mesh ones. They come in various sizes and you can store all of your favorite office supplies from pens to staples to sticky notes. They also work well in kitchen drawers for small kitchen gadgets.
  • Wall-Mounted Magazine Rack - This is the magazine rack I use inside my own home office. I like it because it allows me to only store 15 magazines at any given time. I use the one-in, one-out rule with my magazines. It works perfectly.
  • Wall-Mounted Gift Wrap Organizer Part 1 - There are tons of gift wrap organizers. However, I have found that most of them do not work effectively nor make it easy to retrieve the gift wrap. I use a two part organizer mounted to the wall to contain my gift wrap. This is the top part.
  • Wall-Mounted Gift Wrap Organizer Part 2 – This is the bottom part to the gift wrap holder I use. When combined with the top part and mounted to the wall, gift wrap is extremely easy to access and the ends do not get torn or ripped
  • Hanging Gift Bag Organizer – This is the exact gift bag holder I use in my house. In fact, I did a video on this product. It’s meant to be hung on a closet rod, however, I hang it on an over-the-door hook. The pockets are sturdy and I love how you can see all of the bags at the same time since the material is clear PVC.
  • Hooks for Containing Wires/Cords – These are the hooks I use to contain my wires/cords. The best part about them is they are removable from most surfaces which means you can stick them to the wall, desk or the side of your furniture and they will peel off easily without damage. I use the medium and large sized ones, not the small ones. The small ones are too small.

Garage Organizing Products

  • Bike Lift – One easy way to make more room in your garage is to get the bikes out of the way. If your kids’ bikes are keeping you from parking your car in the garage, then this bike lift is an easy and affordable way to free up space.
  • Tilt-Forward Bins – Most garages are filled with random hardware such as nails, nuts, and bolts. The problem is you can never find the right piece of hardware when you need it. These bins make it easier to keep your hardware sorted, plus hadware is easy to access with the forward-tilting design.
  • Charcoal Dispenser For Grilling – Charcoal is one of the most popular fuels for grilling. Unfortunately, it can also be one of the messiest. This weather-proof charcoal dispenser keeps the bag upright, ready to pour, and keeps your hands clean.
  • 3-Case Storage Chest – For those who have hobbies, crafts, or professions that require a plethora of little parts, tools, and hardware, this 3-case storage chest is a great centralized solution. Each case has individual locking compartments that slide easily into the chest which can be stacked or joined with other cases and mounted on the wall.
